My favorite thing about Sherlock is the character development. I don’t believe that Sherlock is a sociopath (he does care, and sometimes it upsets him that he cares), but he’s not an angel, either. Like most human beings (even if he’s more complex than most), he falls somewhere in the middle. I think he genuinely believes that sentiment is a flaw found in the losing side, at least until he meets John, and he begins to wonder if maybe Mycroft is wrong, and caring is an advantage.
I love this scene because it is so Sherlock. He’s worried about the little boy, and at the same time he’s excited about the challenge. He wants to best Moriarty intellectually, and he celebrates his victory, but then he looks at John, probably remembering the conversation they had earlier and how disappointed John was when he declared that he didn’t care. And that’s all it takes, one look, no words are necessary.

Because the acting and writing on Sherlock is so incredible, I think we sometimes forget to talk about the cinematography/special effects work on the show.

Actually, I appreciate the fuck out of it every time I watch. Amazing stuff. Beautiful compositions, light, reflections, everything. Subtle, yet mindblowing special effects.
